Reinforcing its commitment to sustainable development and the quality of its relationships with its stakeholders, Odebrecht Agroindustrial achieved the following recognition in the crop year 2012-2013:
Empresa Amiga da Criança Seal
The Abrinq Foundation awarded the Empresa Amiga da Criança (Child-Friendly Company) seal to the Company for its rejection of child labor in its operations and/or of employing young people in night shifts – measures which Odebrecht Agroindustrial has implemented since its founding in 2007. The Company is also committed to cancelling contracts with suppliers who do not follow the stipulated guidelines, and has offered to help develop the communities close to its units, by means of programs such as Broto de Gente (“Blooming People”) and the Social Energy Program.
Best Social and Environmental Practices in the Sector
The Social Energy Program for Local Sustainability was awarded a prize by the Sugarcane Industry Union (Unica) for its success in the communities where Odebrecht Agroindustrial operates, in respect of two of the eight Millennium Development Goals defined by the United Nations Organization (UNO): Goal 1 – Eradicating extreme poverty and hunger; and Goal 4 – Reducing child mortality rates.
Chico Mendes Prize
The Instituto Internacional de Pesquisa e Responsabilidade Socioambiental Chico Mendes awarded its Prize for Responsible Social and Environmental Management 2012 to the Social Energy Program for Local Sustainability, for its actions in the nine municipalities where it operates.
The Social Energy Program was cited in BNDES: Um Banco de História e do Futuro, a book published in celebration of the 60th anniversary of Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Econômico e Social, the Brazilian Development Bank, as a benchmark for sustainable investment.
The MasterCana – Desempenho Centro-Sul 2012 Prize, sponsored by ProCana Brasil, a media company, was awarded in the People Management category. Since its founding, the Company has contributed to bringing to the bioenergy sector the best initiatives in people care, by adopting sustainable practices in the operation of its agroindustrial units.
Ten Best Plants in Brazil and Model Technological Plant
During the crop year the Conquista do Pontal unit, which is part of the São Paulo Cluster, was elected one of the ten best plants in the country. It was also considered a model plant in technological terms.
The prize is an initiative of the Agora Project, which is a grouping of companies from throughout the sugar-energy chain. The Company was honored for the paper written by Carlos Antônio da Silva Junior, a member of the Eldorado unit in the Mato Grosso do Sul cluster, on the subject “Changes in the physical attributes of the soil related to different methods of preparation for sugarcane planting”.
